In an age where our prime minister is caught playing Pokémon while in session in parliament it is clear how powerful gamification is - and it is time to look at how game design and game mechanics can be put to good use in the context of learning, development and performance at work.
To help us explore this fun and captivating topic, we have invited Pete Jenkins to join us in the National Gallery in Oslo january 24th.
We'll learn how gamification can be used to create better learning experiences, promote collaboration and enhance performance and much more.
In February 2016, Pete took the number one spot on the global Gamification Guru leaderboard. He is an international speaker and advisor in the field of gamification, and serves as chairman of GamFed, the International Gamification Confederation.
In 2016 we have had the pleasure of hosting astonishing thought leaders like Charles Jennings, Laura Overton and Paul Matthews at Dossier Forum while exploring the role of 70:20:10 learning in capability development.
The 70:20:10 framework teaches us that formal course based learning represents only 10% of learning, while most learning is through colleagues (20%) or experience (70%).
As 70:20:10 competence plans are replacing course oriented learning plans as the hub for all learning, it is clear that there is still a need to design experiences - as much as these may not come in the form of classroom learning, learning apps or e-learning.
Game mechanics, including concepts like levels, badges, teams, taking turns, experience points, risks and variable rewards, countdowns, increasing difficulty, storytelling and much more, can be applied to any process involving human beings - in particular processes involving learning, development and performance.
The gamification community calls this "serious games". And they are right.
Why can't work be as engaging as play?
Indeed, why shouldn't it?
