Professor at the University of Derby, entrepreneur, investor, researcher, speaker and blogger - Donald Clark is one of the leading experts on the future of technology in learning.  Join Donald as he explores the role of artificial intelligence in L&D at the National Gallery, Oslo, Tuesday September 12th  2017.

Dossier Forum is rarely about technology, we try to make a point of that. But there's an exception to every rule. Like search, social and mobile revolutionised learning the last 10 years - AI is set to revolutionise the next 10.

As Donald says, "AI is the new UI". It changes everything.

Join Donald in Oslo as he answers the most pressing questions for L&D professionals:

  • What is AI  - and what it is not?
  • Why do we need to take AI seriously in both HR and L&D?
  • Who is successfully using AI in L&D, and what are they doing?
  • What can I do in my organisation to get started?

In his is online class, computer science professor Ashok Goel at Georgia Tech had 400 students asking 10 000 questions per semester. It was more than he and his small staff of teaching assistants could handle.

Goel conceived of Jill Watson, an AI bot, to help. She was operating under a pseudonym — as was most of the other teaching assistants.

Most students had no idea they had been tutored by an AI bot.  But far from being upset, they were just as pleased as the instructors.  Jill was always ready to respond, could give immediate feedback, and was never bored, tired or distracted. (Wired, Dec. 2016, BBC, Dec 2016)

An AI bot is only one type of smart machine. What smart other machines will change L&D? And what will that mean for your L&D function?

differ_combo.jpgDiffer is coming!

In order to translate theory to practice, we are very grateful to have Geir Sand Nilsen from Edtech Foundry, the makers of Differ, join as a speaker and panel participant.

Differ, or "Siri for Higher Ed" as EdSurge calls it, uses robot teaching assistants to automate student engagement.  They have proven 5x increased engagement and almost 4x lower failure rates in university courses.

Differ is being developed together with the Norwegian Business School BI and universities all around the world with a total of about 2 million students waiting to get started. The learnings and solutions in Differ are featured around the world at events like SXSWEdu (US), EdTechXEurope (UK) and Chatbot Summit (GER)

Geir Sand Nilsen is a co-funder in Edtech Foundry. He is fully focused on addressing the challenges we face in education. Living at the cutting edge of learning and artificial intelligence, he will share his thoughts and experiences from the frontlines.
